Radical-trapping antioxidants (RTAs) are additives to virtually every petroleum-derived product you can think of, from fuels and lubricating oils to plastics and rubber. We study how these compounds work, use this information to design novel compounds with improved efficacies, and exploit these compounds to solve problems in industry and human health.

Two projects ongoing in our laboratories:

Besting Vitamin E and the Rest of Them:

Heterocyclic Analogs of Phenolic RTAs

Goodbye Oil Changes:

Hello Heterocyclic Analogs of Diarylamine RTAs

Antioxidants

projects involve organic synthesis, physical organic chemistry, computational chemistry, molecular and cell biology
